Even if it would be financially successful. They seem to not be that interested in pandering to nostalgia for post-Genesis era Sonic. Also, it probably wouldn't take a ton of resources to port, but it would probably take more than the Genesis ports.

Because too much time has passed since it was released, that particular rerelease initiative is over. I don't think it actually sold that badly though, I remember it hanging around the XBLA top 10 for a while.
